BOUGAINVILLEA ‘Alabama Sunset’

Named for the spectacular sunsets in its native part of the world in the southern United States, the Alabama Sunset Bougainvillea is beloved for the colouring of its beautiful papery bracts, which vary according to the light intensity and their maturity between shades of apricot, burnt orange, salmon and coral. Here in the UK they are best grown in a container in a conservatory or greenhouse, and can be enjoyed outdoors in a sunny spot during the summer. Ideally this variety of bougainvillea is pretty pruned into a standard, otherwise it will need a trellis or support. Grow in a well-drained, slightly acidic soil.
